Pointillism and dot painting are techniques used by the primitive Aboriginal tribes of Australia, where dream painting, aerial mapping and spiritual symbols were drawn on rock and bodies to pass deep knowledge and history to new generations. This combined with the discovery of the prevalence of dot painting in Tanzanian indigenous art, contemporary movements such as Tanzania’s Edward Said Tinga Tinga and German artist Sigmar Polke’s experimental screen prints has resulted in this new body of work.
